**$665 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!** **EXTENDED!** Wiley Miley ACCT-A-215647 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Wiley Miley must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, APRIL 12TH at 10AM. Should Wiley Miley’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Wiley Miley was found as a stray on March 20th. Her finder reported that she was shy, scared, and quiet—and that’s remained true during her stay at the shelter. Though she’s trying hard to be a brave girl, Miley is still a very nervous pup. However, underneath that timid exterior is an incredibly sweet and silly dog just waiting to feel safe. She’s shown some progress in an office and on an overnight foster trip, gaining confidence day by day. Once she begins to open up, Miley becomes playful, affectionate, and curious—following people around with a cute little prance and cuddling up for naps. She gets along beautifully with other dogs, walks well on leash, and enjoys toys and chewing on bones. Still, she’s easily startled by new people and noises, and she needs time and patience to settle in. If you have any other dogs at home, please bring them along for a meet. Because of how nervous she is, Miley is looking for a home without children. Wiley Miley would love to find a quiet, understanding home—ideally with another friendly dog—where she can decompress, feel secure, and blossom into her true goofy, lovable self. Due to her length of stay, Wiley Miley is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, experienced foster, or adopter. She seemed to pick me as her person and would spend most of her time under my desk. She started to come out of her shell more and more every day. She has such a funny personality! She will paw at you and lick your hands or legs for attention and pets. She LOVES toys. If you throw a ball she will clumsily chase it and bat it around with her paws. She does like to chew on things and tear them up including towels, pee-pads and stuffies. She was trying her best to be pee-pad trained while in the office. Towards the end of her stay in the office she ended up feeling comfortable and safe enough to fall asleep in the open on the floor, not under my desk or in her crate. During her time in the office Wile Miley started to guard me from people she did not know while in the office. When someone she did not know well came up to the office door, she would pop out from her hiding spot under my desk and go in between me and the door. She would start barking and growling. When I told her no loudly and sternly she would sometimes look at me, stop barking, head back to her bed and quietly grumble. Other times she would continue barking. Outside of the office, she was able to hang out with the people she was reacting too when she was inside the office. per staff 4/6: I took Wiley Miley out the past two nights and she's doing really great opening up in the shelter environment with familiar staff. The second we step outside she's been excited to prance alongside me and would play bow at me! In the yard, she loved chasing around a ball and getting affection. She really loves head rubs once she feels comfortable. She recognized some staff outside and bravely went up to say hi. She was more timid with staff she did not know and was hesitant to walk towards them, but would go up to sniff them if they turned their back to her. She's such a sweet shy pup. Per volunteer 4/4: Met Hugo and did great, did not potty though. Per overnight 4/2: Wiley Miley is a very special pup. She’s fearful at first but such a silly girl once she opens up! She’s a great passenger in the car. She had to be picked up the first few times to get in, but eventually would jump in on her own. I took her right out back to the yard when we got home where she knew to go potty. She had a few accidents in the house, but knew to go whenever we went outside so a consistent schedule would help her out! She followed me around the house with the cutest prance. She was wide awake for a good while in a playful mood. She explored my dog’s toy bin and chose some of her favorites, but mainly wanted to play with me. She’s definitely still young and has some puppy manners. She can get mouthy but always in a very playful manner and easily redirected. She will also pick up/chew on objects she shouldn’t, but again is easily redirected and never caused any damage. I wouldn’t recommended leaving her free roaming (at least not at first) unsupervised due to her desire to chew though. She does love chewing on actual bones and toys as well! Once Miley finally got sleepy, she cuddled up on the couch with me and slept peacefully throughout the night. Miley also met my dog and spent a couple hours walking with her outside. She is incredibly dog friendly! She greeted her very politely and was very playful. My dog is smaller than her and Miley had a great play style, giving my dog a bubble of space while play bowing and bouncing around her. Miley walks really well on the leash. The only time she’d pull is to prance towards my dog. She does get scared of people passing by and noises (she’ll retreat or cower but never barked) but is able to recover quickly. Miley also met my friend who helped walk my dog while we were out. She was scared at first and needed to walk behind him vs. in front where so she didn’t think he was following her. With time she was able to warm up! She just needs slow introductions to new people. Miley is a wonderful dog who I think would benefit from a furry friend in the home to play with but would be happy with anyone who has love to give! Per staff 4/1: Wiley Miley has really opened up as an office foster! Everytime I go check on her she’s made improvements in her confidence. She’s playing with toys and eating treats more, and seeking attention/pets from her office buddies (but still mainly prefers being under one of their desks). When people walk by she will approach with curiosity, and if it’s someone she knows, she’s been sticking around to say hi! She’s starting to be comfortable enough to really engage with some people (like practicing sit for treats) and it’s so great to see. Per volunteer 3/26: Very scared girl, slowww to warm up. Per staff 3/26: Wiley Miley had two long periods of time in the foster office the last two days 3/24-3/25. Here is what I learned about her: Wiley is very nervous but allows all handling. She seeks comfort in hiding under my desk on a fluffy dog bed and will pop her head up anytime anyone comes in the office. After a while when she got comfortable if I would get up she would follow but if I walk towards her she runs. When I would leave the office if another staff member was not in there she would begin to whine. Her eyes never seemed to look settled and while she would close her eyes she wouldn't actually fall asleep. Her food bowl was also untouched both days so I gave her wet food which she seemed to enjoy but only ate half of. I think shelter stress can definitely be adding to that. While I was sitting with Wiley if I would just ignore her she would place her head subtly on my lap. She seemed to like head pets but would flinch if I reached too fast. The first day she was not interested in treats but by the second she would eat them out of my hand. She did not use the bathroom in the office either day but she also did move much from her spot. I had to carry her to her kennel both days as she would not walk however she would walk around the building nicely with staff just not through. She could benefit from a home that can give her time to adjust. She has a lot of potential but is just very shy/nervous. She loves other dogs and perks up anytime she sees one and she doesn't seem to have a preference with men vs women. Per staff 3/25: Miley was a timid little sweetheart and a comforting presence to be around! Per staff 3/25: Wiley Miley’s spent the last 2 evenings in foster office in attempts to help him warm up since she is so scared in the shelter! She likes to hide under desks and gets nervous with engagement. She will run and hide if people turn back to look at her, walk towards her, talk to her, etc. However once you’re close to her and she’s sitting or laying down, she does seem to take comfort in some head scritches and treats eventually, but hasn’t fully opened up to anyone yet. She’s done well in playgroup with other dogs with come conflicting feelings of fear and excitement. She’s initiated some play but also exit searches at times. She gets nervous whenever someone’s focus is on her. She took a nice nap in the office today once she realized she was safe and we weren’t gonna bother her. She won’t walk through the building back to kennel, but I was able to walk her outside and around the building to the other door that’s close to her kennel. She goes back in her kennel without a problem but takes a lot of encouragement getting out and will try to hide. She allows all handling and lets people pick her up, but can lip lick sometimes when she’s nervous, and will cower away or hide if she has the space to. This girl just needs a patient person to help her trust the world a little more! Per staff 3/25: During playgroup, conflicted play, flight risk, playful push/pull. Per volunteer 3/24: Wiley Miley spent time in the eval room with me, she was a bit hesitant walking with a low head and tail, staying very close to you the entire time. She did follow around when I dropped the leash in the eval room. As time went on she did start to relax more and open up, this looked like taking treats, giving kisses, sitting leaned up against you. She is so gentle with stuffies, is it the sweetest thing ever. She allowed handling all over, the noise and stress of the shelter seem to be significantly contributing to her behavior, in the moments she is distracted or removed from the noise her personality starts to shine through. Such a sweet girl Per staff 3/23: Wiley Miley is very shut down and shy with people, so was worried she'd be shut down in playgroup as well. Once in the yard, she really opened up a lot and was gentle/dainty playing with the other dogs. She also would go off on her own and sniff things and mind her business. When everyone turned their backs, she tried to hop the fence at the end of the yard. She greeted all dogs well. Can jump and clear a 6 foot fence! Per staff 3/20: Very nervous will pancake, had to be carried to kennel per ACA MEDICAL: On 3/27, Miley was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is on medication until 4/9. During her intake exam on 3/20, Miley’s eyes were red. Otherwise, no concerns were noted. Her ears were clean, she had minimal staining and tartar on her teeth, and her coat was clean. She was quiet, alert, and responsive, but scared, and showed no signs of aggression.
