My story

Jocko has a calm, gentle demeanor in his kennel and a friendly, social attitude outside. He enjoys time with his handlers, happily soaking up pets and affection. He responds beautifully to “sit” and “paw,” and takes treats gently like the polite pup he is. While he doesn’t seem interested in toys right now, he thrives on connection with people. He's fully housebroken, has a high energy level, and would love a home where he can stay active and engaged. Jocko is looking for an adult-only home where he can truly settle in and be the best version of himself. He’s affectionate, eager to connect, and just waiting for the right person to offer him the love and structure he needs to thrive. Ready to let Jocko join your adventure? Hopped right out of the kennel and very nice on leash! Walks leisurely and stops to smell the roses. Outside in the front yard he met another dog through the fence and was super loose and relaxed with a wagging tail. I gave him treats and he wasn’t overly interested, but he took them very gently. He seems to know sit and is very calm and treat motivated overall! Took pets from me and was super sweet and affectionate. Chased after toys, but didn’t seem to want to fetch them. Pancaked getting back into his kennel so I got in first and lured him in. 4/17/25 playgroup notes: Loose body language, steerable. Playful, tolerant, gave space, good greetings, self regulated. Designated Helper for rest of play group assessments 04/16/2025 volunteer notes: Eval: approached the kennel and he was standing with soft eyes, ears back, tail low wagging. Calm. Easy to leash and pulled moderately to the outside. He saw a number of dogs and was unfazed, and solicited attention from the handlers. He was tolerant of touching all over his body with ears back, soft eyes and middle tail wagging. He takes treats gently and knows sit and paw. No interest in toys. Dog meet with Darsellus: he approached the fence curiously with head low, ears to the side, tail down and still. As they sniffed he began a low tail wag and each gave the other some kisses. On the walk he sniffed Darsellus and allowed D to sniff him. He then offered some half- play bows. He balked at going back into the kennel, handler had to step into the kennel to get him to follow. 04/15/2025 staff notes: Re: Jocko fighting with the other dog in the home - owner would not provide much information on the specific incidents, but did tell me that the fighting seems to happen because Jocko is a younger, energetic dog and the other dog is much older, so it seems that Jocko may be trying to initiate play with the other dog who is not receptive, creating conflict and causing the dogs to escalate. 04/15/2025 staff notes: Visited Jocko in his crate - he was shy but came forward giving me low, quick tail wags and sniffed my hand gently through the crate bars. No barking or jumping, was pretty quiet and shy. 04/14/2025 staff notes, intake: Was nervous in lobby, panting, appeared stressed. No issues with some handling or with leashing, but did not handle him much at that time. 04/14/2025 staff notes: Placing on evaluate due to owner reporting Jocko has gotten in three fights with their resident dog in the 1 year they have had him.
