Meet Greenthumb! Greenthumb was found as a stray by an animal control officer and taken to Downey Shelter. When he wasn't claimed, we scooped him up to become a Frosted Face on April 22nd. Since it was Earth Day, all the dogs we rescued were given nature-related names, and that's how this cute pup became Greenthumb! He is estimated to be 7 years old and weighs 14 lbs. Greenthumb is sweet, friendly, and does well with the other little dogs in our play yard. As you can see in the videos, he LOVES to play fetch. He also plays tug nicely with his friends! Greenthumb has lots of good energy and enjoys going on our weekly group hikes. He's a great walking buddy, but would also be happy to be your running partner! Greenthumb went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what he is like in a home setting. His Fling Mom reports: Greenthumb has made an incredible transformation in just two short weeks. When he first came home, he was stressed and unsure—but each day, he’s grown more confident, calm, and connected. Now, he’s ready to continue his journey toward a forever home filled with patience, treats, and love. Greenthumb is a bright, eager-to-please young dog with a big heart and even bigger potential. He’s highly food-motivated and learns quickly—just like a puppy! With consistent guidance and calm leadership, he’s showing huge strides in his behavior. When he gets a little too excited, we’ve found that quiet redirection and not feeding the energy works wonders. He’s starting to reward us with calmer behavior and more thoughtful responses every day. Greenthumb would thrive in a home with adults or older children who can continue to support his progress and provide structure. He’s still learning boundaries and does best in a calm environment where his energy can be directed into positive outlets like play and training. Walks with Greenthumb are now a joy—he trots along happily beside us, checking in for treats and occasionally following his canine foster sister to investigate the good sniffs. He’s discovering the joys of being a dog again and is highly responsive to training. Currently working on “stay” and “down,” he’s a blank slate, ready to learn whatever you teach him (especially if snacks are involved!). Greenthumb loves his toys—he'll fetch them, carry them around, and even pile them into his bed like hidden treasures. “Go get your toy” might just be his favorite phrase. Each morning, he sprints to his toy pile and dives in like it’s a treasure chest! Greenthumb is working on polite mealtime manners (especially since he thinks his foster sibling’s identical food is somehow better) and is learning to settle on his bed for quiet time. If he has a special chewy or bone, he prefers not to share. When you meet Greenthumb, be prepared to fall in love! And when you sit down, don’t be surprised if he hops up beside you, asking for gentle pets or a paw shake. Greenthumb is ready to grow into your loyal companion. Could you be his forever person?" To meet Greenthumb, please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org to schedule an appointment.
