My story

URGENT: Help Drago (Now Barkley) Get the Healing He Desperately Needs   Drago’s journey has been a rollercoaster of hope, heartbreak, and resilience. He came to us from a kill shelter on Christmas Eve, fighting pneumonia. We were his only chance—and we answered the call when a foster stepped up.   But things didn’t go as planned. His first foster couldn’t keep him. The second… changed him. The sweet, untrained boy we pulled was no longer the same. Still, Drago showed promise. He thrived in home boarding with other dogs. Then, he found a loving family and was adopted. One month later—his longest placement ever—his trauma began to surface. Drago does have food guarding.   He’s scared, unsure, and lacks confidence. He hasn’t been taught the basic skills he needs to navigate the world. He desperately wants love but doesn’t know how to ask for it. Together with his current foster family, we’re searching for a new foster home that can provide the stability and support Drago needs to heal and grow.   What Drago Needs in a Foster:  • Experience with pit bulls and reactive/fearful dogs  • A fully fenced-in yard  • A quiet home in a calm neighborhood  • Not located on a busy street (he has too many noise and movement triggers)  • Patience, consistency, and willingness to follow training and rescue protocols  • Ongoing communication with the rescue  • A supportive household ready to help Drago work through his fears at his own pace   Drago is not aggressive—he is fearful. He has triggers because he’s never been shown how to feel safe.
