My story

Chancy is an 11-year-old lady with a quiet heart and a gentle spirit. She’s shy at first, but beneath her reserved demeanor is a loyal companion just waiting to bond with someone special. Chancy enjoys the calm life. She’s not interested in the hustle and bustle of a busy household and would thrive in a peaceful home where she can feel safe and understood. She prefers a slow, steady routine and a cozy spot by the window to watch the world go by. She’s not a fan of other cats, dogs, but would be ok with older children who respect her space. What Chancy truly wants is a quiet home where she can be the one and only, and where her space and pace are respected. Chancy may not be a lap cat, but she’s the kind of companion who will sit near you in the stillness, content just to be close. If you're someone who appreciates a deep bond and the quiet comfort of a loyal feline friend, Chancy might be the one you’ve been waiting for. Do you want to make a difference in a special kitty’s life? Consider adopting one of Dakin’s “Spirit Cats.” These cats are fearful of people and don’t require a lot of attention. What they do need is a place to park their paws in a quiet home where they’ll be loved just the way they are. One day, you may find that you’ve earned their trust and get head butts and maybe even a bedtime buddy. But there are no guarantees. Your visitors will never see them because they’ll quietly slip away and disappear into a closet. Spirit Cats may enjoy being around their own kind and sometimes make great companions for other cats. Are you ready to make a difference in a special kitty’s life? Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
