Clark ACCT-A-223600 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Clark must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, JULY 11TH at 10AM. Should Clark’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Clark is a young pup estimated to be just ten months old when he was found all on his own behind an apartment complex. The good Samaritan who brought him indoors overnight said he behaved like a house dog; but sadly, despite several weeks in the shelter, no owner ever came looking for Clark. Clark has so much going for him: he knows sit, loves snuggling, likes to play with other dogs, and even seems to have been housebroken previously. He’s an expert at tug-of-war, though he admittedly isn’t so great at fetch (hey, nobody’s perfect!). Like everyone, Clark has his challenges, too: he was pretty nervous when he first got to the shelter, and while he’s settled in nicely over time, he can sometimes feel uncomfortable with new people. At just 10 months old, Clark is at the perfect age to learn, gain confidence, and become the very best boy he can be! Clark has done well with other dogs during his shelter playgroup sessions, and would likely do well in a household with another dog to be his best buddy. Clark has occasionally attempted to mount both people and other dogs, but responds readily when corrected; with this in mind he would likely do best with older kids 10 and up. Clark’s story shouldn’t end here - he is eligible for adoption, foster care, and rescue placement, but must exit the shelter no later than July 11th at 10am. Please read through his full notes below to learn more about this very special boy! Playful like he’s been housed before. Friendly, cuddly… Eats out the trash.” 6/22 per staff: “Walked by Clark, he was sitting on his bed, he was trembling. I tossed in a milkbone sandwich and it landed next to him, he looked down and sniffed it then looked back at me with soft eyes.” 6/23 playgroup notes: “Steerable, loose at the gate, tail wags, good greetings, sexually motivated, interested and curious, responded well to correction.” 6/26 per staff: “Did meet [with potential adopter], Clark was friendly and pretty good on the leash. He was a little jumpy, but very friendly with adopters and accepted pets all over.” 7/2 per volunteer: “I took adorable puppy Clark outside on the 30th. He had 4 clips because he was PCR tested and results were he had only a canine cold. He was very happy to see me and my leash. This very sweet little boy was easy to leash and he came right out of his kennel. He frequently stopped on our walk to enjoy the smells, and only had some mild pulling. He looks to be in great shape with a beautiful black coat. Before we got to the cold yard, he had a nice meet with a shy female, Bellantine. Initially barky and pulling towards her, he did settle after 2 laps walking in the lot, and after they had a quick introduction. As the meet progressed he was very appropriate towards her. In the yard, he showed me he is trying to stay housetrained and enjoys jumping up for cuddles and pets. He played tug with me, chased a ball and showed me he can do sit. Though he took the first treat too eagerly, he took the rest of the treats with care. I had no issue returning him to the kennel. This young pup is adorable.” 7/5 per staff: “Clark was easy to leash and had soft to neutral eyes. He was observant on the walk. He had a mid level tail and was very aloof at first. With some time outside he started bouncing all over me and was super wiggly. In the yard he would push into me for cuddles and even when i pushed him off he would come back for more cuddles. He loved toys and will bring them back for you, including stuffies which he debates keeping. He allowed all handling and was a bit handler oriented when other people approached me, growling and hard barking when they came near. I called him closer to me and he would be fine, remaining loose and wiggly. He knew sit and down, and took treats gently. An overall sweet and goofy boy. Blue due to behavior with strangers.” 7/6 per staff: “Clark was calmly resting in his kennel when I approached. He saw me and rose, coming to the kennel door. Allowed me to loop him with the slip lead and walked with minimal pulling. He went to the bathroom immediately once we exited the building, so may have some history of housetraining. We went to the play yard where he spent a few minutes sniffing around. Once he had explored the space on his own, he came over to me, put his paws in my lap, and snuggled his head into my arm, allowing petting all over. When I would stop petting him, he would nuzzle me with his nose to ask for more pets. I attempted to play with him, but he wasn't super interested in chasing toys or playing fetch. He did really enjoy playing tug-of-war with one of the plush toys, and then ripping its stuffing out! Clark knows sit and responds readily to the command. When another dog passed by the play yard, Clark did get quite excited and was whining and trying to squeeze himself under the fence, but it seemed that he was interested in playing with/greeting the other dog - no reactivity observed. While we were hanging out in the yard, at one point I crouched down to pet him, and Clark was soliciting attention before becoming overstimulated and attempting to hump my leg, but he immediately stopped when I stood up, pulled him away and said "no." He simply moved on to sniff around the yard a bit. On our return walk to his kennel, Clark was still a bit fixated on another dog who had passed by us - he pulled towards the dog while whining, and then as we walked away he continued to look back and whine. We also passed a few volunteers who were just a few feet away and had never met Clark previously, and he showed no reactivity towards them - was interested in approaching them but not persistent. He also greeted a staff member he'd met previously, put his paws up on them and allowed petting. Upon returning him to his kennel, he stepped in on his own. He playfully chomped at the leash as I removed it from his neck, but he didn't take hold of it, just gave it a nibble and then let me take it back.” MEDICAL INFORMATION Clark’s 6/22 intake exam noted he weighed 57.3 lbs with an ideal body condition. He was not found to have a microchip. His eyes appeared slightly pink due to his stress level, but his ears, nose, coat and skin were unremarkable and clean. He was determined to be an intact male. On 6/27, Clark was found to have developed an upper respiratory infection (URI). He began a course of antibiotics to help him recover. His PCR test was negative for pneumovirus. On 7/5, Clark was noted to have infectious pneumonia which was confirmed via radiograph. He was scheduled on additional medication to help with recovery. — ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
