My story

Meet Chewy – our dapper little dude!! Chewy has just the right amount of “bad boy” charm and sweet-as-pie vibes. Estimated at 2 years old, Chewy joined the Freedom Squad after being rescued from the San Bernardino shelter in Southern California. He came to us a hot mess—another unfortunate case of a breeding experiment gone wrong—but you wouldn’t recognize that version of him now. Personality quirks: Chewy has a lot of energy and absolutely lives for playtime. He gets along best with females and more submissive male dogs and would thrive in a home with an easygoing fur friend who can match his playful spirit and still enjoy nap breaks by his side. That said, he’d also be just fine as a spoiled only pup with the right outlet for his zoomies. He takes direction well, knows basic commands (especially when treats are involved), and continues to improve with potty training, especially now that he’s been neutered. This guy is obsessed with yard laps and takes full advantage of the baby pool for cool downs. His highlight moment? A full glow-up courtesy of our favorite groomer, who said he was a perfect gentleman during his spa day. He strutted out fresh, clean, and looking pristine… until we begged him not to dive straight back into the dirt for at least 24 hours. Classic Chewy. That highlighted eye will melt you on sight. Foster pupdate: Chewy formed a fast friendship with Jubilee and absolutely had FOMO if they weren’t together. He does fine with other dogs but will defend himself if provoked—he’s no pushover. Despite his mischievous looks and wire-haired terrier mix vibes, he’s a softie at heart and loves attention. Running into the yard and cannon bombs into the baby pool are his favorite past time! He will sit to get a picture there is something about his little smirk underneath it that I can feel! This guy is great, and he will be an awesome addition to any active family. I really hope that someone loves the uniqueness of Chewy’s looks like we do! Medical/diet/hygiene: He is medically sound, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He’s on a skin and coat-support kibble and takes a salmon-based probiotic treat every morning, which has been doing wonders for his coat and digestion. He enjoys weekly baths with Epsom salt soaks and appreciates being brushed during his spa time—it helps him relax. His dew claws will need regular trims, so be prepared to pamper this king. If you’re looking for a little edge, a lot of love, and a dog whose equal parts zoomies and snuggles, Chewy might just be your guy. We are still learning about Chewy as he is getting settled and try to make updates as often as possible. Apply today at freedomfrenchierescue.org and let this scruffy charmer steal your heart. His adoption donation fee is $1050.00.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chewy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
