My story

Don’t let the number fool you—Loki may be nine, but he’s got the energy of a much younger dog and the heart of a pup who’s never stopped loving life. This handsome pit bull is playful, silly, and always up for a walk (though fair warning—he’s strong and walks like he’s got places to be). Loki loves people and is especially fond of belly rubs and quality time with his humans. He’s house trained, crate trained, and has done well with kids as young as six. He’ll thrive in a home where he can be the only dog—he finds other dogs stressful and much prefers a calm, one-on-one connection with his people. We don’t know how he does with cats. Loki came to us when his previous family went through a divorce and could no longer keep him. He’s ready to bring joy, companionship, and a whole lot of tail wags to his next home. If you’re looking for a loyal, lively, and loving companion, Loki just might be your guy. *NOTE: Loki hasn’t had his full medical exam with our veterinary team yet. That said, he looks great for his age and appears to be in good condition; we haven’t noted any obvious concerns so far. We’re making him available now so he can start meeting potential adopters while we wait for his vet appointment. Like many older dogs, he may have some age-related changes, but we’ll know more once he’s examined. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
