My story

Emerald, also known as Emmy, is affectionate and loving, and don't be surprised if you find her lying cozily on your chest! Emerald has also mastered the art of fine conversation and will share the details of her day with you. Of course you won't understand, but just humor her. She is a playful gal and enjoyed romping with her feline friends in their last home. Emerald was leery of the children in her last home. They were young and didn't understand her boundaries, but she might do well with older children who do understand boundaries and are gentle with her. She enjoys pets on the head and butt but her tootsies are strictly off limits. She is accustomed to living indoors. She does shine like the jewel she's named after! Looking for your next best friend? Emerald may be your purrfect match! This cat has specific litterbox needs. When you bring this cat home they will need to be set up in a room by themselves. This cat will go home with a behavior plan that you will need to follow in order for them to use the litterbox reliably. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
