My story

Calling all hound lovers—Duke has a tale to tell! When Duke first arrived, he wasn’t sure what to make of his new world. He kept to the back of his kennel, watching quietly with those big, soulful hound eyes that seem to understand more than they let on. But day by day, with gentle words and a few kind moments, something wonderful happened: Duke began to trust. Then one morning, he surprised everyone by stepping forward, tail softly wagging, ready to greet his favorite people and take treats with newfound confidence. That’s how Duke blooms—slowly at first, then all at once.Once he feels safe, this handsome softie shows off his true colors. His absolute favorite thing? Hind-end scratches. He’ll lean in with all his weight, eyes half-closed, as if he’s saying, “Right there… don’t stop.” And when he discovers a squeaky toy? The shy boy transforms into a joyful whirlwind, bouncing around and playing like he’s making up for lost time. He’s also a total champ at trading toys for treats, making playtime both fun and easy.Duke has polite dog manners and handled his dog meet with quiet grace. He prefers low-key interactions and seems happiest doing his own thing or greeting new canine friends slowly and thoughtfully. He’s searching for a calm, steady home—one with older kids or adults who understand that sensitive souls need a little space and patience to truly flourish. In return, Duke promises loyalty, sweetness, and a heart that loves deeper the more you earn his trust. If you’re looking for a gentle hound with a big, beautiful heart who’s just waiting for his person to help him shine, Duke is ready to meet you. Let him be the one to steal your heart—you won’t regret it.This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 5 day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period.
