My story

Meet Duke—or as we like to call him, Dukey Poo. This tan and black German Shepherd/Lab mix is a sweet, timid boy who’s still learning how to navigate the world. Loud noises, sudden movements, and fast activity can be scary for him, so he’s looking for a calm and understanding home where he can feel safe and loved. Duke doesn’t need a busy lifestyle—he just needs someone patient, peaceful, and gentle who will let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Duke hasn’t shared how he feels about other dogs or cats yet. He would prefer a home without young children—fast movements and unpredictable energy are overwhelming for him. Older, dog-savvy kids who understand how to move slowly and respect his boundaries might be a better fit, but mostly, Duke is hoping for a low-key environment where he can relax. He does a great job of keeping his kennel clean here, which is a good sign—but he’ll likely need a refresher on house training once he settles into a home. As you can tell from his photos, Duke has some serious hops—this guy can climb a fence like it’s nothing. Any outdoor time will need to be closely supervised and in a secure space to keep him safe. He’s not trying to run away—he’s just a little unsure of the world and still figuring things out. With the right home, Duke has the potential to become a devoted and loving companion. All he needs is someone willing to give him the time, space, and quiet love he deserves. Since many of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes, appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt! Our adoption fees include the following: all of our dogs/puppies are current on vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, heartworm tested and current on preventative, microchipped, treated for fleas/ticks and are spayed or neutered. Our large dog adoption fee is generally $175 + tax. Our small dog and puppy adoption fee is generally $275+ tax. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Due to space limitations, we do not hold dogs. Because we are on a busy street, we require that all dogs leaving the shelter be in a carrier or on leash. All pets remain up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee paid.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Duke, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
